Dental Implants: The Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

Missing teeth can present physical and emotional challenges, affecting your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Fortunately, dental implants provide an excellent solution. These small titanium posts are embedded in the jaw and offer unrivaled support for crowns, bridges, and dentures. In addition to replacing missing teeth, dental implants can protect the shape and structure of your jawbone. At our Madison and Hendersonville, TN, offices, Dr. Bryan Carlin can place and restore dental implants, ensuring top-quality care from start to finish.

Explore Your Candidacy

You may qualify for dental implants if you have one or more missing teeth. You should be healthy enough to undergo surgery and be free from periodontal disease. As the implant posts are placed in the jawbone, it is important that you have sufficient bone tissue for support. If you have sustained bone recession as a result of tooth loss, you may need a preliminary bone graft to augment your jawbone.

Planning Your Treatment

During your consultation, Dr. Carlin can assess your oral health and evaluate your medical history. We can take digital x-rays to identify areas of bone loss and plan your treatment. Often, Dr. Carlin can place and restore implants himself. However, in more complex cases, he may work with a trusted oral surgeon and coordinate your treatment. Depending on your needs, Dr. Carlin may recommend:

  • All-on-4®: With this advanced technique, four implant posts can support a full denture. In addition, patients can typically receive a temporary restoration on the same day as implant placement, so they never have to be without teeth.
  • Mini Dental Implants: For patients without sufficient jawbone tissue, mini dental implants may provide a solution. Patients typically do not need any form of bone augmentation prior to mini implant placement.
  • Ceramic Implants: Patients who are concerned about the aesthetics of traditional titanium implants can elect to receive tooth-colored dental implants.
  • Ceramic Abutments: Made of highly durable, tooth-colored zirconia, these abutments are the most natural-looking way to anchor your new restoration to your implants. They are most commonly used on highly visible teeth.

To help make your treatment as comfortable and safe as possible, Dr. Carlin works with an anesthesiology service called Nashville Office-Based Anesthesia, or NOBA. Together, you and Dr. Carlin can determine whether nitrous oxide, oral medication, or intravenous (IV) sedation is the best option for your needs.

What to Expect

With proper care and regular visits to your dentist, dental implants can last a lifetime.

During the procedure, the doctor will create a small incision in your gums before inserting the dental implant carefully into your jawbone. They can then close the incision with sutures. After three to six months, your implants should be fully fused with your jawbone tissue, and you can return to our office to receive your permanent crown, bridge, or denture

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants have incredible benefits and are recognized as the gold standard in restorative dentistry. Implants and restorations can renew your ability to chew comfortably, enunciate clearly, and smile confidently. By replacing teeth from root to crown, implant-supported restorations also protect your jawbone from atrophy, which commonly occurs after tooth loss. With proper care and regular visits to your dentist, dental implants can last a lifetime.
